Patagonia Women’s Untracked Jacket

Built with unwavering attention to descent-oriented details, our Untracked Jacket features a wonderfully soft, supple (and quiet) 3-layer stretch fabric construction, a fully dialed yet refined, low-bulk design and unsurpassed windproof and waterproof/breathable performance for riding anywhere, anytime. The warm, comfortable design starts with a versatile, 3-layer 92% recycled nylon GORE-TEX stretch fabric that provides absolute waterproof/breathable and windproof performance in all conditions. We treat the fabric with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish to stop moisture and wet snow; this finish also keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated and increases durability. A moisture-managing brushed interior lining in the upper body increases warmth and comfort without extra bulk and a slick, snow-shedding nylon lining in the lower body provides a smooth glide when layering. Pit zips allow a cooling airflow for steamy days, but when it blows, a fully adjustable, low-profile powder skirt with a single snap seals in your heat (includes a webbing loop that attaches to any Patagonia® Snow pants). The helmet-compatible, two-way-adjustable hood has a soft, laminated visor to preserve visibility along with the Cohaesive™ cord-lock system that embeds cord locks in the hood and hem to eliminate loose ends and provide easy adjustability. Coated, watertight zips with slim zip installation reduce bulk and weight. Pockets include two handwarmers; one chest with a secure media pocket and cable routing; one pass pocket on the left forearm; one internal drop-in for goggles and gloves; and one internal stash (for your après-ski brew). Includes an embedded RECCO® avalanche rescue reflector. Fair Trade Certified™ sewn.

Materials
Shell: 3-layer, 5.13-oz 70-denier 100% nylon plain-weave GORE-TEX® fabric with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.
Brushed backer: 3.2-oz 75-denier 100% polyester.
Lining (lower body) and powder skirt: 2.2-oz 50-denier 100% polyester taffeta

Weatherproof
The construction of 3-Layer GORE-TEX® Products is unique. A 3-layer GORE-TEX® membrane is sandwiched between a soft outer material and a knit polyester backing material that increases durability. These garments keep you comfortable and protected from the elements without adding extra bulk or weight.

The GORE-TEX® membrane has 9 billion pores per square inch, with each pore 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet. These tiny holes are too small for water and wind to pass through from the outside. But these same pores are large enough for moisture vapor to pass through, so your body’s perspiration is able to escape and you won’t feel clammy or uncomfortable inside your jacket.

Recycled Nylon
Although we’ve been using recycled polyester in our garments for 20 years, for some reason locked deep in polymer chemistry, nylon is more difficult to recycle than polyester. After years of research, development, and testing, we’re finally finding some recycled nylon fibers that are suitable for apparel.

Some of the recycled nylon we use comes from post-industrial waste fiber, yarn collected from a spinning factory, and waste from the weaving mills that can be processed into reusable nylon fiber.

We’re diligently searching for a success story with recycled nylon. The challenge lies ahead of us, and we’re committed to discovering the best methods to recycle nylon fiber, but it appears this evolution will take many years.

bluesign® Approved Fabric
Patagonia has worked with bluesign technologies since 2000 to evaluate and reduce resource consumption in our materials supply chain, and to assist us with managing the chemicals, dyes and finishes used in the process. bluesign technologies, based in Switzerland, works at each step in the textile supply chain to approve chemicals, processes, materials, and products that are safe for the environment, safe for workers, and safe for end customers.

In 2007, Patagonia became the first brand to officially join the network of bluesign® system partners.

Any fabric you see that’s bluesign® approved offers the highest level of consumer safety by employing methods and materials in their manufacture that conserve resources and minimize impacts on people and the environment.

The Footprint Chronicles®
Patagonia promotes fair labor practices, safe working conditions and environmental responsibility throughout the Patagonia supply chain.
